"Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity." - President George W. Today, by secret ballot, the United Nations elected Libya as the new chair of the UN Human Rights Commission. Only three votes against this action were placed: the United States of America, Canada and Guatemala. 33 African Nations voted to allow Libya to hold this post. All 17 European nations abstained. Yet despite today's vote the collective rationale of the "international community" still thinks the United States should defer to the United Nations to be the arbitrator of morality in the world?
Our Allies brought shame on themselves today. What little shred of moral credibility they once had is now locked up in a Libyan dungeon. Today's actions speak for themselves.

Why Verdad!? Fatigued from negative spin engulfing today's news and current events, Verdad! is dedicated the simple and overwhelming Truth that:
"The promise of the ever ancient, ever new, and only coherent truth [is] that the human project cannot fail, not finally*."
I started Verdad! about a month ago, enthusiastic about having found a method of expression that far exceeded my typical evening dual with the news and political pundits. I've struggled however, over time, to finding a coherent path and topic worth devoting my time to. Passionate about a great many topics, ranging from religion (Catholicism) to National Security, I've sputtered to find direction. Recently however, bestowed with a bit of lucidity, I realized the purpose of this blog: to devote myself to morally clarifying to the major issues impacting our world today.
Verdad! is the Spanish word for Truth. Throughout the many different dialects in the Spanish-Speaking world, Verdad often translates as "really?!" or "no way?!" or "seriously?!" and of course, "truth." Within the confines of this blog, Verdad! means all of this and more. Here you will find commentary and links to both prominent issues as well as those issues below the fold - each framed in the context of morality. I can make no claims on my "credentials" as a philosopher, theologian, moralist or ethicist; I have none to speak of other than a binding passion and intellectual curiosity. Rather, my credentials are that of a human being, endowed with soul and a rational mind, not capable of truly understanding the world God has created around me, but undeterred to try.
Similar to a great many blogs online today, my purpose too is to (self) educate, stir debate and ultimately convince those who stumble upon these pages that the fundamental difference between right and wrong, good and evil, still is as prevalent today as ever. Vocationally speaking however, Verdad! is different from the multitude of conservative or religious blogs available because, as the word makes self-evident, it is my calling.
I invite you to read, enjoy, debate, blog back and link to this site. Only through the power of a diversified readership, will the message begin to take hold.
